If your tooth has been chipped or has a cavity and needs to be restored, fillings can be used to solve these issues.

Fillings are the most common way to repair teeth, as they prevent further problems from escalating and potentially affecting your neighbouring teeth.

Fillings: the process

Once the need for a filling has been identified, the decay is removed and the surrounding tooth is cleaned, then filled. Here at Crown Bank Dental, we’re big on prevention over cure. Post-treatment, we may wish to discuss how you can reduce the likelihood of needing a filling in the future.

FAQs

What symptoms might I experience if I need a filling?

In many cases, you won’t experience any symptoms to alert you to the need for a filling. It’s for this reason that routine check-ups are so important, as your dentist will be able to identify any problems, and act to address them immediately – before symptoms occur. Sensitivity and pain after eating and drinking are tell-tale signs that it’s time to make an appointment right away and not to wait until your next routine check-up. The sooner the problem is addressed, the better.

How long do fillings last?

Fillings can last a number of years with the correct care. Eating a healthy diet, visiting the dentist and hygienist at the recommended intervals and adopting a good at-home oral care routine will stand you in good stead.

Will the treatment hurt?

As an anaesthetic is used, you shouldn’t experience any discomfort. Some minor sensitivity and tenderness may be felt as the anaesthetic begins to wear off, which should subside after 48 hours. Please get in touch with us if you’re concerned about any persistent discomfort.

I was dealt with in a professional and friendly manner. The treatment took one hour to complete. During this time I was regularly asked if I was comfortable, and offered short breaks to clear my mouth of matter created whilst being treated. A dentist not the nicest of places to have visit, however no pain and it appears that the treatment was successful.
